Dealing with Rejection
Waiting to hear back from the colleges can be agonizing. You should start hearing back from the schools no later then April. If you don't get into the school of your choice, you'll probably experience some sadness. However, this is not the end of the road. There are many schools that have much to offer, and your second, or third choice will probably be wonderful schools as well. Don't blame yourself for the rejection. Don't take this rejection personally. Colleges receive thousands of applications, and unfortunately not everyone can attend. Often the less selective colleges give out more scholarship money.
If you have been waitlisted for your first choice college, but accepted to your second choice college, time is of the essence. Find out exactly how long it will take to know if you will be accepted, and if there is anything you can do to speed up the process. Since there are deadlines for a response, this can often be worse than if you were just not accepted to begin it. Think this over, it just may not be worth it to jeopardize your opportunity to start college in the fall.
If you were not accepted to any of the schools you applied to, you will probably be forced to take a semester off, and reapply for the spring semester. Otherwise it may be possible to enroll in a community college, and then transfer the credits.
