Finding Time for Your Degree

Just because you earn your degree online, does not mean that you will not be devoting a large amount of time to studying.  This is a degree and school use to be a full time job for you.  If you decide to sign up for online degree, you are committing yourself to about 10-16 hours a week per class.  This will impact work, your leisure time, and your family life.

Since there is only 24 hours in a day, and you probably still want to sleep, finding time for you degree is probably going to be an issue.  I would advise against getting a degree if that means you will be seriously neglecting your health or your family.  You might want to inform your employer that you are an online student, so maybe you won't be required to work as much overtime.  You will have to sit down and discuss this with your family.  Maybe someone can do more of the chores during the semester.  Set some ground rules.  Tell them that you shouldn't be interrupted while you are studying.  Find a quiet place, where you can close the door.  It is important that you get the support of your family, while you are trying to obtain your degree.  This is important goal, and one that shouldn't be sidetracked because of a selfish family member.  Make sure to tell your family why you are studying.  Maybe you want to advance in your career, or meet a personal goal of a graduate degree.  Whatever the reason, make sure they understand and support you. 

Many people do the bulk of their studying during the weekends, but you should still try to do some of your course work during the week, so you don't feel so overwhelmed.  Maybe you can do some reading during your commute or at lunch.  The point is, getting an online degree demands a lot of effort and time.  In the end very few students feel it wasn't worth the effort.
