Making the decision to go back to school.
For many of us, pursuing further education is something we toss back and forth in my minds. We doubt ourselves, as to whether we have the dedication or ambition to spend hours working on assignments and studying for exams, when we already have full time jobs and families. Many people will just say, they don't have the time, and give up right then and there, but once we think about all the potential that we are missing out on, we think twice about going back to school.
Popular Distance Learning Programs:
You should ask yourself several questions before making the commitment to go back to school and earn a degree.
- Are you motivated to attend classes, and participate in your learning?
- Is your current situation flexible enough to go back to school. You must commit to class time, as well as time to study and do assignments. If you are raising a new born at the moment, you probably don't have time to breathe, let along read a text book.
- Does your job require lots of overtime?
- How will you pay for your online degree? Does your job have tuition reimbursement? Many employers will pay a portion of your tuition bill, as long as you get satisfactory grades, and will continue with a degree related to your current job.
- Do you have the academic skills you'll need? I know I would never be accepted into a program for mathematics, so you should have some interest and skill in the degree that you are pursuing.
- What do you want to study? Do you like your current job, do you see yourself pursuing a similar career after you graduate?
