What You Need To Study Online
You will absolutely need a space in your home that is quiet and spacious for you to study in. If you do not have broadband access, consider getting it. For an extra $30-$50 a month, you will waste less of your life waiting for pages to load. Video conferencing with other students is also practically impossible on dial up. Your family will also want to use the phone now and than as well. Get a decent computer that doesn't crash every five minutes, and have a decent amount of ram. These days a computer can purchased for as little as $299 online. You won't need a $2000 computer for distance learning, so save the money for a vacation after you earn your hard-earned degree. An online student will also need a decent word processing software like Microsoft Word.
Since you'll be spending so much time at your desk, get a decent chair so you can sit properly. You might also want to consider getting a small TV with a VCR, since some schools do send video tapes, and you may not want to fight for the TV with your small children. You might also like a fax machine, scanner and a webcam for video conferencing. Your professors will let you know if you need any extra supplies your first day of class.
