Test Taking Techniques

If you are an adult learner, the idea of going back to school and taking exams again is probably the last thing you want to do.  Don't worry, you will remember how to study, along with how painful it is. 

Try these techniques at an exam:

• Relax, a little nervousness is natural.  Don't force yourself to relax, that will just make you more nervous.  Breathe deeply, and count backwards.
• If you are taking a remote test, you can get up and walk around.
• Take a quick glance at the test by scanning how long it is. 
• Make sure to read the directions first.
• Pace Yourself, and don't spend to much time on one section
• Prioritize by answering questions you are sure about first, the more on to more difficult questions.
• Keep moving - If you don't know the answer, move on to the next question, you can always go back if you have time.
• Eliminate answer that are definitely wrong first, then see what is left.
• Guess an answer if you absolutely have no idea what the answer would be.  Leaving an answer blank is the same as getting it wrong.
