In 1995, Jones International University (JIU) was launched, throwing open the doors of higher education. Harnessing the power of the Internet, Jones International University was the first Web-based university to exist entirely online.

Jones university made history in 1999 by becoming the first online university to be fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association, an accrediting body for institutions of higher education in the United States.
